INDUSTRY RESEARCH

Automotive Collision Repair Workforce Study

The automotive collision repair industry continues to face challenges in attracting talent. To address this, CCC partnered with CREF to conduct a study examining the perceptions of potential future talent.

The findings highlight insights that could shape how the industry engages with the future workforce.

CAREER INFLUENCES
Social media heavily influences how students first discover and research careers in collision repair.
INDUSTRY PERCEPTIONS
Nearly half of students don't actually know what most trade jobs involve.
GROWTH EXPECTATIONS
Students view collision repair as steady, financially promising, and filled with advancement potential.
TECHNOLOGY DRIVERS
Most students want a career that blends hands-on work with technology.
Key Findings
Through this study, we found that today’s students are interested in collision repair but don’t have early access to information about the job, the industry, or the opportunities for advancement. Students’ interest in this career path increases significantly when they see real collision repair technicians in action, sharing stories about how they’re learning, growing, and building a stable, fulfilling future.
95%
Would be more interested in pursuing a career in collision repair if they knew it involved advanced software and AI tools
77%
Wish they’d known earlier about alternative career paths beyond a traditional four-year college degree
41%
Say technician success stories are the number one factor that increases their interest in collision repair
